Custom-Made Products for You

The idea of a COMPARTE Design Center originated with you, our customers. Over the years many of the wholesalers and retailers we serve have asked to be involved in developing new product designs or adding special design elements to existing ones. We know that many of the best ideas for new designs come from the people who interact daily with the various consumers who buy and enjoy handcrafted products.

For that reason we welcome new product requests or modifications to existing ones throughout our product lines in clay, wood, ceramics, semi-precious stones, jewelry, metals and mixed medias. Depending on your needs and the complexity of the design, we invite you to come to Chile to work directly with our artisans, or collaborate with us by email, fax, telephone or mail.

As part of the interactive design process, it may be possible to arrange for product exclusivity. The terms and cost of such an arrangement will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis. Upon receiving the product specifications, we will advise you as to the price associated with creating a sample of your product design.

Four Design Center Program Alternatives:

1. Detailed Original Product Design

To work with us to develop a sčcific design, please include:
  • A sketch of the product including exact dimensions. Please include dimensions of each aspect of the product, including design elements.
  • Materials to be used in marketing the product. This is especially relevant if the product will be part of a collection or merchandising theme.
  • Anticipated weight of the product.
  • Color scheme and desired method for achieving this color scheme. Please provide paint, fabric or other color samples as available.
  • Special packaging requirements.
  • Quantity you expect to order initially, as well as long-term marketing/merchandising plans.
Upon receiving your design proposal, our staff will make a technical and economic evaluation of the product, which we will forward to you. At your request we will have a sample made by one of our artisans. Upon your approval of the sample we will ask that production, in the quantity you specify, begin as soon as possible. This iterative process may take anywhere from one month to one year, depending on the complexity of the project.

2. General Design Idea

You can present your idea to COMPARTE so that our designers and artisans may develop it in more detail. In this case you only need to send to us an idea (as much detail as you would like to provide, via a description or sketch) and we will bring it to fruition. Please be sure to supply us with any special requirements and be as specific as possible as to your expectations or vision of the final product. Also provide packaging specifications as needed.

A COMPARTE artisan will render a sample of your idea, which we will then send to you for approval or requests to modify the design. Upon final approval, production of the specified quantity of the product will begin.

3. Modify An Existing Product

Suggestions may include changes to material(s) used, size, color, design, packaging, or any other attribute that will make the product more suitable for your market. In this case, we ask that you please provide specifications as to what changes you would like to be made, including the following as applicable:
  • Sketch of the new design - whether you are requesting a change in the form of the product or a specific element of the design
  • Materials to be changed - please be specific as to which product elements you would like change, particularly in the case of a mixed-media piece.
  • Colors to be altered - ideally, our artists can best match color requests if you provide color swatches (paint, fabric, or whatever material you may be trying to match), otherwise, please provide a general description of the desired color.
  • Packaging - include any ideas with regards to size, materials, labeling information, or other package attributes that would suit your merchandising plans
4. Intensive Workshop Opportunities

In addition to design projects that target a single product or product line, COMPARTE facilitates periodic intensive workshops with our artisans. These programs are most frequently developed in partnership with a professional designer recommended by a buyer client, who works with COMPARTE's own design team to explore new designs that would best fit the market demands of that client with the style, skills and production capabilities of our artisans. Workshops last from a few days to two weeks, and often concentrate on working with a small group of artisans or materials. If your organization is interested in exploring such a project, please let us know.

Our staff is looking forward to work with you in this new endeavor. Should you have any comments, suggestions, questions about this service or if you would like to initiate a Design Center Project, please do not hesitate to Contact Us by email, telephone, fax or postal mail.
